today is tense...

so here are some drawings. First one is last week's CHoW, St Alia of the Knife. Pencil, digital, you know the score. I love the way that the drawing looks in reality, but after i scanned it the slight wonkiness started to really bother me, and I probably did more to it than I needed to. It is at least uh.. 10 years? since I read Dune, and even then I'm not sure if I finished it, but I tried to base the outfit and colours on the bedouin and palestinian traditional dress I saw at an exhibition in the summer. I should post photos - when I locate them.

Plus the finished shed.

more shed

some work in progress here... this is live! I don't really know where its going. Yay!

I should be working but really I'm just thinking about what I'm going to dress as for hallowe'en this year.

exploding sheds

So after a month away in South Africa I return to finish this drawing. It's for a poster, I think.

in progress

Wow, two posts in one day - unprecedented! Here is a photo of an in progress drawing I have been working on in the evenings lately. It's relaxing to sit down, put on an episode of The Shield and do some detailed pencil work.

places

Environments still take me an embarrassingly long time, but I think I am getting faster. Thinking about stuff like placement of doors and stairs, and which edges are perpendicular and which are parallel is incredibly tiring. In the end I decided to screw all that and just make it pretty. Where is the light source?! Beats me. These are from a few months ago. I didn't intend to show the process here, but I found some saved jpgs and figured I might as well.

Crow Jane

I was listening to Murderballads today and decided to take a break from work to draw Crow Jane. I had imagined her kind of different, but then I googled the lyrics and this happened. The gun is so unconvincing it's making me cringe, but I like the rest of it so far.

"O Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson
Why you close up shop so late?"
"Just fitted out a girl who looked like a bird
Measured .32, .44, .38
Asked that girl which road she was taking
Said she was walking the road of hate
But she hopped on a coal-trolley up to New Haven
Population: 48"

she's crazy about ballerinas

I found this drawing lying around and decided to finish it off. I think it was based on a wilful misinterpretation of the Shellac song 'Ghosts'. The top bit is the Cerberus drawing from a while ago, they were meant to go together but that got a bit out of hand. There's all sorts of mysterious helpful notes to myself written around the drawing. I still need to draw whatever it is she's summoning, but I'm looking forward to finally colouring this.

sketching for 'fun'

I'd like more time to draw fun stuff please.

guten tag

Yesterday I went to Lichtenstein - the fourth smallest country in europe!

I've also been doing some drawing - on holiday no less!

grace and face

This is a portrait of my sister that is not a particular likeness and somewhat skewed because she kept moving despite requesting (repeatedly) that I draw her. And a little drawing that I did on a road trip. Working on a laptop in a car is hard.

teevee drawings

The other night I saw Harvey Milk and Oxbow play in Manchester - Harvey Milk were incredible and Oxbow were, well, kind of weird and unpleasant to listen to (I sure do have a twisted sense of fun) but the bass drum felt like it gave my heart a new rhythm. That was pretty cool. Anyway, no one comes here to hear about musical experiences, have some drawings. These are from a while ago, from my sketchbook, drawn of people on the television. I wish I had something more recent that I can actually show, but hey. Soon hopefully.

robo--

Was totally on autopilot drawing this, quick (okay, maybe 2 hours) warm-down between working and going out. I love robots. Next step: keep the pace and rough rendering, but actually illustrate something.

wooo

Feels like I've been super busy but I guess I don't have much new work to post. Have a man-wolf and some cave-people instead. My ears are still ringing from seeing My Bloody Valentine on Saturday. I'm listening to the new (I think....) Electrelane album, it's pretty nice.

stuffs

Couple of things - first is something I finished a few weeks ago on the morning that my degree show had to be hung and the other is Cerberus coloured which I'm using for some promotional postcards.

okami

Here's some Okami fanart from a couple of weeks ago. I don't really know what is going on here, but it was fun attempting to emulate the style of the game. Characters copyright Capcom and posted here without permission. It was for that fanart contest over at deviantart (the one with the most boobs won, obviously).

blogging and bleeding- so emo!

I just cut myself on foamboard (of all things!) so instead of dripping blood all over my work I thought I'd share some last minute work I did for my final show! (I start hanging it tomorrow and I intend to start from scratch a few more pieces - what an idiot!). It's those shepherds again, with some uhh.. sheep-like creatures. For once it looks better printed than on screen, which is nice.

500 years part 2 and hand studies

It's so sunny today I just want to get outside but I have to stay in and draw... boohoo.

more dorky shepherds

I don't know what is going on with their clothes in these. So glad they are finally done and I can move on!

sketch from tonight

Anyone who was ever in a dance class as child will probably tell you that this is actually not too far from the truth

get that hand off my picture

Farewell hand - you were a bastard to paint but I guess you were pretty good for a while. You're just not what this painting needs

some flowers

Aw, how nice. Part of my repeating pattern fantasies that really should not be happening so close to the end of my degree.

transformations

Background for something else - neither really worked out how I wanted them to but I quite like this.

faces

Too lethargic and tired to do any real work so I drew some heads instead.
